What is pressed Baltic amber, and is it real?
Often, when customers see the word "pressed" (or prasowany in Polish) in a product description, they wonder if the jewelry is a counterfeit. We want to completely reassure you: this is 100% real, authentic Baltic amber!
To help you better understand this material, we have compiled the most important facts about its production and unique characteristics:
Pure Organic Origin: No plastics, glass, or epoxy resins are used in this technique. It starts with small, but completely clean and high-quality pieces of genuine, natural Baltic amber, sourced from the very same deposits as large nuggets.
How does the process work? These small fragments of original amber are placed into specialized jewelry pressing molds. Under high temperatures (around 180°C–220°C / 356°F–428°F) and immense hydraulic pressure, the amber pieces soften and naturally fuse together into a solid, homogeneous mass. No glue, solvents, or chemical binding agents are added during this process – the pieces bond together relying solely on the amber's natural organic resins.
Why choose pressed amber?
Flawless Visual Appeal: Finding a massive, single, monolithic piece of amber in nature large enough to carve out dozens of perfectly identical, clean, and round 12 mm (~0.47") beads without natural cracks or dark inclusions is extremely rare. If such a necklace were made from one solid block, it would cost thousands of euros. Pressing allows jewelers to achieve perfectly round shapes and a beautiful, clear cognac tint at an affordable price.
Enhanced Durability: Amber treated this way becomes denser and more flexible than raw, untreated amber. This means the necklace is significantly more resistant to accidental drops and will not crack or chip during everyday wear.
Preserved Natural Properties: Because the composition remains one hundred percent pure amber, pressed amber retains all the same physical and energetic qualities provided by nature – it is just as pleasantly warm against the skin and keeps its signature lightweight feel.
